Tommy was a proud father and a loving son and brother. He was never happier than when he was preparing thanksgiving dinner surrounded by his children. He was a man who never knew a stranger and enjoyed making everyone laugh almost as much as he enjoyed a good debate. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to have lifelong friendships with him including Charlie Treadway, Jamie Rash, and Stephanie Hutchins.
Surviving are his mother, Henrietta “Ginger” Whitted of Candler; father Roger Bucklew and wife Emma Lee of Swannanoa; daughter, Rebecca “Becka” Burd; sons, Caleb, Zachary and Devin Bucklew; sisters, Anna Challenger of Greer, SC, and Tonya Blair of Middleburg, FL; step-brother, Allen Stewart of Swannanoa; and step-sister, Tina Dotson of Fairview.
In addition to his family and friends, Tommy had a passion for antiques, old cars, and collectible firearms. His lifelong dream was to have a permanent home at the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which he dearly loved. His children will fulfill this dream by spreading his ashes on the shores of Ocracoke Island on July 17, 2020. A celebration of life will be held on August 1st with the location to be announced at a later date. Tommy will be remembered for his love of life and the joy he brought to all those around him.
