V. W. “BUSTER” CODY WEAVERVILLE – V. W. “Buster” Cody, age 91, of Weaverville died on Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Madison Health and Rehab. Mr. Cody was born July 29, 1924 in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County since 1963. He retired from Square D and was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. He was the son of the late Vern H. and Mattie Wyatt Cody and husband of the late Alene Rice Cody who died in 2007. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Nilis Cody, and Helen Wallen; and brothers, Harley, Kermit, Jim, and Bill Cody. Surviving are his sister, Iva Spaulding and husband Ben; sister-in-law, Virginia D. Cody; nieces, Janice Blackman, Rita Coates, Jennifer Whitt, as well as other nieces and nephews. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2016, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Brian Hanrahan officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Tuesday prior to his service at the funeral home.
