VALERIA PAYNE SHELTON WEAVERVILLE – Valeria Payne Shelton, age 91, of Weaverville, died Friday, August 5, 2016. Mrs. Shelton was born March 17, 1925 in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life. Valeria was a member of Mt. Sheba Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Fessie and Flotia Bailey Payne and wife of the late J.D. Shelton and the late Reverend James Hill. Mrs. Shelton was also preceded in death by her brothers, Burlon, Richmond, and Arthur Payne; and her sisters, Maudie Payne and Leath Bradburn. Surviving are her sons, Kermit Shelton and wife Pat, and Dallas Shelton and wife Nancy; sisters, Faye Meadows and Barbara Morton; brothers, Norman Payne and wife Bernice, Clarence Payne and wife Joann, and Evan Payne and wife Elsie; grandchildren, Tim Shelton and wife Alicia, Tony Shelton and wife Haley, Melody Laster and husband Tim, and Megan Miller and husband Stephen; and seven great grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2016, at Mt. Sheba Baptist Church, 870 New Stock Road, Weaverville, with Reverends Steve Rhinehart, Jeff Massey, and Roger Massey officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2016 at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville where her body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to her service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Kermit and Pat Shelton. Flowers are welcome.
