Velma Mundy Harris

BARNARDSVILLE – Velma Mundy Harris, age 93, of Poverty Branch Road, joined her late husband, George, in Heaven on September 14, 2024. The couple had been married for 70 years.

 Velma was the daughter of the late Roy and Pearl Anders Mundy. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by her siblings, Richard Mundy, Lucille Earwood, Imogene Clinton and Lorraine Ponder.

 She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Velma was a faithful churchgoer her entire life and loved her church families at Barnardsville Freewill Baptist Church and Barnardsville Baptist Church. She and George also worked tirelessly in their community service.

 Surviving is her daughter, Judy Carson and husband Stephen; son, Steve Harris and wife Nancy; grandchildren, Charlie and Darian Carson of Port Aransas, TX; Kendal Harris of Barnardsville, NC; Kevil Harris of Asheville, NC; Tina and Shannon McBee of Paden City, WV; great grandchildren, Cody Baker and Sami of Billings, MT; Mollie and Clay Morris of Paden City, WV; Elizabeth Carson of New Martinsville, WV; Amy Baker of Morgantown, WV; Martin Baker of NAS Lemoore, CA; and five great great grandchildren.

 Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home. Reverend Shane Lunsford will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, Weaverville, NC.
