Vera Mae Ponder Evilsizor

VERA MAE PONDER EVILSIZOR ASHEVILLE – Vera Mae Ponder Evilsizor, age 96 of Asheville died Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Mrs. Evilsizor was born June 7, 1919 in Madison County to the late Elisha and Rhoda Robinson Ponder. Vera was a member of Celebration Baptist Church in Weaverville. She retired in 1979 from Ira B. Jones Elementary School and enjoyed volunteering with North Buncombe Samaritan Ministries. She was the wife of the late Norman E. Evilsizor, who died in 1989; and was also preceded in death by brother, Orville Ponder; and sisters, Mabel Ball and Maude Hunter. “If an angel is someone who’s so filled with love, it’s a gift they constantly share” which describes Vera’s love for her survivors, nieces, Elaine Hunter, who was also her loving caregiver, Janet Banks, Audrey Tolison, Brenda McIntosh, Eula Higgins; nephews, Charles, Tony and Doug Ponder, Owen Ball; and step-daughter, Joyce Anway. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2016, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverends Dolph Robinson and Al Harrell officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
