ALEXANDER—Vernie Meadows Shelton, age 83, of 1281 Old Hwy. 20 died Friday, November 6, 2009.
Vernie was born September 9, 1926, in Buncombe County. She was an 18-year employee with Memorial Mission Hospital and later worked in private duty nursing. Mrs. Shelton was a member of Cedar Hill Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late James and Josie Embler Meadows and was also preceded in death by her husband, Ed Shelton who died in 1991, and granddaughter, Becky Buckner.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Shirlin and husband Bill; son, Keith Shelton and wife Charlene; sister, Bernice Hunter; brother, Bill Meadows, all of Alexander; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
Mrs. Shelton's funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2009, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. David Brigmon and Brent Keating officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
At other times, the family will be at the home of Keith Shelton, 1285 Old Hwy. 20, Alexander.
Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.
