VICTORIA "VICK" WARD MARSHALL - Victoria "Vick" Ward, age 102 of Marshall died Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Elderberry Healthcare. Mrs. Ward was born February 6, 1913 in Madison County where she had lived all of her life. She was a literal shelter from a storm for her two children and husband in 1935 when a tornado hit Snowbird hollar destroying their home and all of the family's possessions. She was also shelter from life's storms for her family and loved ones. A devout Christian, devoted mother, wife and Nanny, Mrs. Ward lovingly cared for her husband at home for 15 years after he suffered a stroke. Preceding her in death are her parents, Horace Cook and Minnie Sherlin Cook Caldwell; husband, Gene Ward who died in 1974; daughter, Minnie Lee McKinney, sons-in-law, Ted McKinney, Jr. and Robert Metcalf, Sr., along with 13 sisters and brothers. Surviving are her daughter, Peggy Metcalf; granddaughters, "The 5 McKinney Girls", Ann Banks and husband Bruce, Julia Lynn McKinney and Mikie Dillingham, Elaine Robinson, Sharon Fowler and husband Marc, and Karen Robinson; The 4 Metcalf children, Robbie Caldwell and husband David, Robert Metcalf, Jr. and wife Chris, Alan Metcalf, Joy Townsend and husband George; 13 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Tobe Frye; sister-in-law, Retha Ward; special niece, Billie Caldwell; and special family, Shirley Wilde and sons. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, July 6, 2015, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Reverend Woody Dillingham officiating. Burial will be in Bowman-Rector Cemetery, Marshall. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome. At other times the family will be at the home of Bruce and Ann Banks, 1411 Dillingham Rd., Barnardsville, NC 28709.
