ASHEVILLE—Viola Holdsclaw Fisher, age 86, of 4402 Angelus Circle died Tuesday, August 26, 2008. Mrs. Fisher was born March 23, 1922 in Iredell County, NC and was a resident of Asheville since 1957. A member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church, Mrs. Fisher had served as church secretary for twenty years, church clerk, and church hostess and was involved in many other church activities. Her family, church and looking after her fellow neighbors were very important in her life. Mrs. Fisher was the daughter of the late Navy and Lottie Brown Holdsclaw and wife of the late Blair Fisher who died in 1995. A sister, Ruby McDonald also preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Bonnie McCarson and husband David of Clemmons, Marilyn Howell and husband John of Asheville and David Fisher and wife Suzanne of Spartanburg, SC; nephew, Larry Nesbit of Lexington, who was like a son; sisters, Merle Franklin of Dallas and Ethel Dutra of San Mateo, Calif.; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29th in Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church with Revs. Jim Russell, Dr. James Johnson and Tom Lomax officiating. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, Asheville with Mrs. Fisher's grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends following the funeral service at the church.
