WOODFIN—Virginia E. Marcum, age 96, of 4 Apple Lane, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012.
Miss Marcum was born November 27, 1915, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She retired from Woolworth Company in 1982. She was a member of Elkwood United Methodist Church. Virginia was preceded in death by her mother, Minnie Banks Marcum; brother, Decatur Banks; and cousin Nell Cogdill.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Maxine Banks of Asheville; nieces, Sandi Donohue and sons Grayson and Scott Hughey of Fairview, Deborah Ponder and husband Mike of Alexander, Lynn Watkins and husband Jeff and children Candice, Ryan and Courtney of Swannanoa; nephew, Reagan Banks and wife Karan and children Colby, Rachel and Carly of Candler; cousins, Mike Cogdill of Asheville, Elizabeth Pressley of Arden, Charles and Katherine Banks of Alexander, Gerald Banks of Asheville, and Walter and Kay Banks of Alabama.
Her funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, September 13, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Enoch G. Ball officiating. Burial will be in Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
