Virginia Davis Roberts

Virginia Davis Roberts, age 90 of 527 Lower Flat Creek Rd. died Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Mrs. Roberts was born May 25, 1925 in Madison County where she lived until moving to Buncombe County in 1964. She and her husband, Bert were employed by Oak Ridge Nuclear Plant. Unknown to them until after World War II ended they had helped to build the nuclear bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima. Later Mrs. Roberts worked at Mills Manufacturing for 22 years. She has been a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church since 1964. She was preceded in death by her parents, Moody and Allie Meadows Davis; husband Gerald Bert Roberts who died in 1998; sisters, Nellie Shelton and Jessie Ball; brothers, James, Bobby and Cleophas Davis. Surviving are her daughters, Jerrie McDevitt and husband Charles, Linda Brown and husband Johnny, Donna Elkins and husband Arlan; sons, Kenneth Roberts and wife Unice, Toby Roberts and wife Shelia; sisters, Robbie Creson, Elva Mae Henderson, Betty Jean Rice; grandchildren, Doug McDevitt and wife Tammy, Steven McDevitt and wife Katrina, Melinda Edwards and husband Ricky, Tracy Wilde and husband Anthony, Kenneth Roberts, Jr. and wife Christy, Kimberly Buckner and husband BJ, Krystal Roberts; eleven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015, in the Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 350 Flint Hill Rd., Alexander, NC 28701, with Reverend Josh McDevitt officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of Toby and Sheila Roberts. West Funeral Home is assisting the family. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund at Oak Ridge Baptist Church.
