WEAVERVILLE—W.E. "Gene" Harron, age 89, of 600 Locust Grove Rd., died Monday, September 24, 2012.
Mr. Harron was born March 25, 1923, in Buncombe County. He retired from Ecusta Olin Paper Company after 30 years. Gene enjoyed cattle and tobacco farming. He was a US Army veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of Locust Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Harron was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Siddie Wilde Harron; wife, Evelyn Buckner Harron who died in 1988; sisters, Anna Lee Crowder, Hazel McLean, and Phyllis Robinson; brothers, Clifford, Troy, and Howard Harron.
Surviving are his son, Danny Harron and wife Debbie of Marshall; granddaughter, Denise Sprinkle and husband Josh; great grandchildren, Hannah Grace and Allie Faith; step-grandson, Clay Capps; and special friend and companion of 24 years, Artie Keith.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012, in Locust Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Ben Whitmire and Harry Culbertson officiating. Burial will be in Locust Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW 5483 Mars Hill Memorial Team.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
