BARNARDSVILLE—W. Vernon Hutchins, age 86, of 1641 Barnardsville Hwy., died Thursday, July 11, 2013.
Vernon was born November 5, 1926, in Black Mountain and was a resident of Barnardsville for the past 58 years. He retired from Honeywell as a maintenance electrician and was never too tired to help someone else. He enjoyed gardening and rebuilding his 1966 Chevy truck. He was a member of the Dillingham Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where he served as an elder, deacon and Sunday School superintendent. Most of all, he loved his family and loved the Lord. He was the son of the late Willard and Pansy Haynie Hutchins.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Reva Stone Hutchins; daughter, Louise Bishop and husband Albert of Arden; son, Roger Hutchins and wife Stephanie of Weaverville, Max Hutchins and wife Liz of Hendersonville, and Jay Hutchins of Old Fort; grandchildren, Pam, Shelly, Shannon, Lanette, and Morgan; and seven great grandchildren.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2013, at Dillingham Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Richard Hicks officiating and eulogy by nephew Carroll Arrowood. Burial will be in Haynie Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
