WALLACE "WALLY" BLACK REED WEAVERVILLE - Wallace "Wally" Black Reed, age 85, of High Bluff Drive died Thursday, February 5, 2015. Mr. Reed was born November 19, 1929 in Waterloo, Iowa to the late Harry M. and Elizabeth Black Reed. A 1952 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Commerce, Wally worked in the retail business several years before graduating in 1964 from the University of Iowa's School of Law as a member of the Order of Coif. Mr. Reed practiced law in Iowa serving on state bar association committees and was president elect of the local bar association. He was on the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Waterloo, Hawkeye Institute of Technology, Waterloo Paper Company, Waterloo Cemetery Association, the YMCA and was on the governing boards of his church. After retiring from law in 1980 Wally and his wife, Mona moved to Florida where they enjoyed sailing until moving to Weaverville in 1989. Wallace then served as a Guardian-ad-Litem, was an officer of Trinity Place, President of the Weaverville Planning and Zoning Board, the Board of Governors of Presbyterian Homes of NC, and held various offices in his local church including treasurer of the day care center. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mona Hawks Reed; daughter, Anne Romine and husband Christopher of West Palm Beach, FL; son, Thomas Reed of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Claire and Tess Romine. His memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, Asheville, with Reverend Leah Brown officiating. Burial will be in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, Waterloo, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Asheville, Day Care Center, 5 Oak St., Asheville, NC 28801.
