Walter Samuel Draffin

MARS HILL – Walter “Walt” Samuel Draffin, age 91 of Mars Hill, passed away Friday, September 29, 2017. Walt was born August 20, 1926 in Bally Bay Co. Monaghan, Ireland to the late Alexander and Sara Draffin. He came to the United States at the age of 28 and became a US Citizen in 1960. Walt worked as a landscaper, first in Los Angeles but eventually all over the country. He was a hard worker and loved to watch and play golf. Walt was known for his strong handshake; as well as his giving spirit and love for helping others. He was a faithful and active member at First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville, where he was a Deacon Emeritus. He is preceded in death by his wife Arleen Meeker Draffin who died in 1997; a step-son; brothers David, William, Johnny, Eric and Herbert; sisters Ruth, Maudie, Mabel and Viola. His memory lives on by his niece, Jillian Kirk, who lives in California as well as his cousin Ken Draffin and family that live in Ireland; also a step-granddaughter and additional nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be Tuesday, October 10 at 4:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church in Weaverville with the Rev. Skip Gillikin officiating.
