Walter Ervin Honeycutt

ASHEVILLE—Walter Ervin Honeycutt of Asheville departed this life on Saturday, May 5, 2012, his 84th birthday. He went home to be with his Savior and loving wife. Mr. Honeycutt was born May 5, 1928, in Buncombe County to the late Cleve L. Honeycutt and Grace Corn Honeycutt. Mr. Honeycutt was a member of Inanda Baptist Church since 1960 where he was a former trustee and had previously taught the Junior Boys Sunday School Class. He served his country at the end of World War II with the United States Marine Corps in Tientsin, China. Mr. Honeycutt retired from Biltmore Dairy Farms as Chief Engineer in 1993, having worked there for 45 years. After retirement, he worked for eight years with West Funeral Home. Daddy had a knack of fixing anything, a jack-of-all-trades. He was known for his gardening abilities and loved to grow all types of flowers and plants. He never met a stranger and had a special place in his heart for babies and little children. He loved his family and was proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments. Our parents set a good example, providing us with a strong Christian home, teaching us the value of marriage and family morals. In addition to his parents, his wife of 63 years, Thelma Pressley Honeycutt who died April 3, 2012, preceded him in death; also, his siblings, Glenn, Rex, Willie "Bill," Stan, Charles, Lois, and Sallie Honeycutt. Surviving are his daughters, Cheryl Brown and husband Roger, Janet Solesbee and husband Carl, Gwenda Angel and husband Wesley, and Lisa DeBruhl and husband DeLaine; grandchildren, Travis and Grant Brown, Seth and Leah Solesbee, Amber Angel Hunley and husband Lawson, Colleen Angel Warren and husband Charlie, and Hunter and Benjamin DeBruhl; two great grandsons, Eli Hunley and Colby Warren; sisters, Doris Leeman and Estie Williams; and brother, Cleve "Red" Honeycutt. The funeral service for Mr. Honeycutt will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, May 10, 2012, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Revs. Gayle Brown and Terry House officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Park with military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family will receive friends and family from 6-8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
