Wanda Gosnell Stewart

MARS HILL - Wanda Gosnell Stewart, 81, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 2, 2023 at her residence.  She was born in Buncombe County on October 10, 1941 to the late Pender Henderson and Jesse Marie Jones Gosnell.  In addition to her parents, Wanda was also preceded in death by her brother, James Edward Gosnell; sister, Patricia Gosnell; and several aunts and uncles.

Wanda was a resident of Buncombe County for most of her life.  She was a graduate of Erwin High School Class of 1960, and worked at Square D for 31 years.  Wanda loved being a grandma and great-grandma, and attended Forks of Ivy Baptist Church.

Surviving are her children, Sharon Phillips and husband Todd of Mars Hill, and Jerry Payne of Candler; sister, Barbara McKee of Knoxville, TN; aunt, Leona Sumner of South Carolina; grandchildren, Jessica Marie Williams, Stephanie Lingerfelt and husband Troy, and Gabriel Phillips; great-grandchildren, William Padgett, Wesley Padgett, and Kinsley Lingerfelt; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Rev. Greg Hollifield will officiate. Burial will follow in West Memorial Park, 40 Roberts Street, Weaverville. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm until 2:00pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, at the family’s request, contributions may be made to the funeral home to cover expenses.
