ASHEVILLE—Rev. Wesley "Wes" Hurni, age 92, of Asheville, died Friday, April 12, 2013.
Rev. Hurni was born November 2, 1920, in St. Louis, Mo., where he lived for the first 15 years of his life. He then moved to Norfolk, Va., where he resided until going to college at Nyack College in N.Y. He was a resident of Asheville most of his life. Rev. Hurni started a Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Wilmington and was with the same church in Charlotte, pastored an interdenominational church in Asheville for ten years, and was on the radio for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wesley George Hurni, Sr., and Angie Jordan Hurni; wife, Myrene Cole Hurni who died in 2007.
Surviving are his daughter, Lynne Buckner of Asheville; son, William "Bill" Hurni and wife Jill of Hendersonville; granddaughter, Elizabeth Buckner; and great granddaughter, Colbie.
His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church of Weaverville, with Rev. Skip Gillikin officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church.
