WEAVERVILLE—Willa Hyder Geouge, age 85, of Herron Cove Road entered into the arms of her loving Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2009.
Mrs. Geouge was born April 18, 1924, in Buncombe County where she had lived all of her life. She was formerly employed by the Hadley Corporation, A-B Emblem and Newfound. Her parents came to reside with her after the death of her husband Ray in 1974, and she devoted 22 years as a loving caregiver. She loved working in her garden, canning and making quilt tops. It was her joy to make each of her granddaughters a quilt when they married. She was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church and she especially enjoyed her Sunday school class. She was a devoted Christian and loved the Lord with all her heart. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are so blessed to have been loved by such a sweet and precious lady.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, William "Bill" Geouge and his wife Judy and Curtis Geouge, all of Weaverville; daughter, Shirley Shelton and her husband Rev. Charles of Swannanoa; four granddaughters, Tracie Rice of Weaverville, Melissa English and her husband Anthony of Mars Hill, Charla Weiser and her husband Michael of Ferny Creek, Australia, and Angela Cook and her husband Tommy of Knoxville, TN; seven great grandchildren, Nathan and Michaela Lunsford, Jackson, Caitlyn and Kurt Weiser, and Laura and Daniel Cook; three brothers, Richard Hyder and his wife Grace and Kenneth Hyder, all of Barnardsville, and Donald Hyder and Beverly Jarvis of Mars Hill; two brothers-in-law, Jim Geouge and his wife Sylvia and Phillip Geouge and his wife Jean, all of Burnsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 4, 2009, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Frank Hopkins and Rev. Charles Shelton officiating. Burial will be in Longs Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at her home.
