ASHEVILLE—William Woodard "Bill" Bartlett, age 81, of Asheville, died Monday, August 5, 2013, in the Charles George VA Medical Center. Bill was born November 2, 1931, in Henderson County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was a retired lieutenant with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department and a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Marine Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Weaverville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Della Ballard Bartlett, and brother, James C. Bartlett. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Barbara Bartlett; daughters, Diane (Paul) Masters of Conn., and Beverly Hoyle of Fla.; stepdaughters, Lisa (Steve) Meehan of Ga., and Stacey (Jeff) Godfrey of Ga.; stepson, Stephen (Sherri) Brinkley of Tenn.; brother, Robert Bartlett of Weaverville; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 9, 2013, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with Rev. Jim McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Enka, with military graveside honors conducted by the Mars Hill Memorial Team. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home.
