WEAVERVILLE—William Albert Jarvis, age 89, of Weaverville, died Thursday, July 25, 2013.
Mr. Jarvis was born April 14, 1924, in Asheville to the late Roy Eugene Jarvis and Ruth Allison Jarvis King. Mr. Jarvis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was involved in many Naval conflicts. He retired in 1986 from the Southern Railway as a locomotive engineer. He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where he had served as a deacon. His wife of 43 years, Betty Lou Johnson Jarvis, preceded him in death on December 7, 1988. Also predeceased were his sister, Grace Carolyn Jarvis Hyder; step-mother, Wilena Ferguson Jarvis; and step-sister, Jean Kiser.
Surviving are his daughter, Anna Rebecca Jarvis of Weaverville; granddaughter, Claire Jarvis Parker Siburt and husband Michael of Morrisville, N.C.; step-brother, Bill Ramsey and wife Juanita of Old Fort, N.C.; brother-in-law, G. Paul Hyder of Leesburg, Fla.; and a number of cousins and their families.
Mr. Jarvis' graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, July 28, 2013 in Riverside Cemetery, 53 Birch St., Asheville, NC 28801. The Rev. Mark Ramsey will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Saturday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville.
