William Ernest Lyda

ASHEVILLE – William “Bill” Lyda, age 84 of Asheville went to be with the Lord, Thursday, October 17, 2024.

Bill was born January 31, 1940, in Buncombe County to the late Ernest Charles and Pauline Ashley Lyda. He lived most of his life in Buncombe County and as a young man they spent some time in Jacksonville, NC, where his father was employed. Bill served in the U.S. Airforce for 5 years where he worked on B-52 Bombers. He retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company after 30 years of service. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church, Weaverville for more than 50 years. He was an avid reader and book collector. Bill was always willing to help anyone in need.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jackie Davis and brother, Robert Lyda and.

Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Patricia “Patty” Browning Lyda; daughter, Melanie Allen and husband Fred; son, Sean Lyda; step grandchildren, Bo Allen and wife Jenny; step great grandchildren, Autumn, Summer, Sam and Winter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill also leaves behind many wonderful friends.

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Stuart Lamkin officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with military honors.

The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:15 pm, Tuesday, prior to the funeral service.
