William Kenneth Worley

ASHEVILLE – William “Kenneth” Worley, age 96, passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

Mr. Worley was born on May 1, 1927, in Madison County and was a resident of Buncombe County for most of his life. He was the son of the late Edward Burnett and Ina Mae Buckner Worley. Mr. Worley is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Coates Worley, and siblings, Jake, Belva, Claude, Lucille and Eloise.

He is survived by his daughter, Dottie Wallin (Rick) of Cary, NC; and son, Phillip Worley (Beverly) of Greenville, SC; sisters, Rosalee Hutchins and Pauline Melton (Roger); and brother, Albert Worley; grandchildren, Kimberly Mann (Scott), Jake and Matthew Wallin; great grandchildren, Lawson and Emily; and great neighbors and friends, Ken and Ozzie Babb.

Mr. Worley served in the US Marine Corp during World War II.  He worked for Lowe’s until retirement after a long career.  He enjoyed cattle farming in both Buncombe and Madison counties and enjoyed telling tales and jokes.  He was a member, as well as a deacon and greeter, at Morningside Baptist Church. 

His funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 20, 2023, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with the Reverend Earl Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville, NC.  The family will receive friends from 1:15 to 2:15 pm on Sunday prior to the funeral service.  

Flowers are welcome or you may choose a memorial contribution in Mr. Worley’s honor to a charity of your choice.  The family would like to thank all the Staff at Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care, Aston Park Health Care, and Harmony at Reynolds Mountain as well as special caregivers, Lynn, Ellen and Victoria.
