WILLIE MAE EMORY HAWKINS ALEXANDER - Willie Mae Emory Hawkins, age 91, of Old Hwy. 20, left this world to be with her heavenly family on Friday, April 4, 2014. Mrs. Hawkins was born on February 20, 1923 in Buncombe County where she was a resident for most of her life. She was a member of Ivy Hill Baptist Church and formerly employed at Woolworth's in Asheville and Grinnell Brothers in River Rouge, Michigan. She is a daughter of the late Jeff and Essie Myers Emory and wife of the late John Max Hawkins who died May 18, 2000. Surviving are Willie Mae's son, Randy and wife Sandra Woods Hawkins of Asheville; sister, Juanita Hill and husband Preston of Asheville; brothers, Rev. Worth Emory and wife Marie, and Eric Emory, all of Weaverville; three grandchildren; and several wonderful nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with her brother Rev. Worth Emory officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014 at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Sandra Hawkins. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to Ivy Hill Baptist Church, 9 Emory Woods Drive, Weaverville, NC 28787. The family would like to thank all the staff at Emerald Ridge Health and Rehabilitation for the love and care given to Willie Mae for the past four years.
