Woodson Whittemore WEAVERVILLE – Woodson Whittemore, age 85 of 163 Blackberry Inn Rd., died Friday, March 24, 2017. Woodson was born April 1, 1931 in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He retired from the Town of Woodfin Water Treatment Facility after 30 years; he enjoyed farming. A veteran of the US Army, he served during the Korean War. He was a member and former deacon at Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church. His parents, Robert and Ollie Metcalf Whittemore preceded him in death, as well as his sisters, Velva Mundy, Ada Jenkins, Ruth Sheehan and brothers, Paul, Ralph, Wilbur, Mack and Carrol Whittemore. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Shirley Gilliam Whittemore; daughters, Barbara Wiebel and husband George of North Wilkesboro and Beverly Whittemore of the home; sister, Barbara Buckner of Weaverville and granddaughter, Haley Wiebel of Washington, D.C. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 in Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev.’s Philip Wilson, Duain Whittemore and Delain Whittemore officiating. Burial will be in Penland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. At other times the family will be at the residence.
