Zeynobia Drake Arrowood

d. September 13, 2014

ZEYNOBIA DRAKE ARROWOOD WEAVERVILLE - Zeynobia Drake Arrowood, our precious Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, went to be with Jesus and loved ones on Saturday, September 13, 2014. She is now free of Alzheimer's disease, which had tormented her for many years. A native of Madison County, she was born to the late Jake and Elsie Hamlin Drake on September 10, 1922. She lived most of her life in Buncombe County and was a member of Sexton Baptist Church. In 1945 Zeynobia married J.W. Arrowood, and they were blessed with 57 years of marriage. She was a proud 1940 graduate of Mars Hill High School, where she loved her teachers and classmates. Mrs. Arrowood was employed by North Buncombe High School, where she and husband, Jay were employed for thirty years as custodians. She was a hard worker. Preceded by husband Jay in death, she was also preceded by sisters, Marjorie Buckner and Virginia Drake and grandson, Ross Parham. Zeynobia was an expert gardener; she planted, cultivated and harvested great amounts of vegetables each year. Her African violets were a beautiful sight to behold, and decorated her kitchen window with color. Another thing she excelled at was sewing. Watching sports on TV and going to all Bruce's ballgames through the years brought her great enthusiasm and excitement. Her arms and her home were always open, and her family meant the world to her. She loved family gatherings. She was a true Proverbs 31 woman "she looked well to the ways of her household". Surviving are her children, Hattie Jo Parham and husband Jimmy, Karan Tabor and husband Jimmy and Bruce Arrowood and wife Sylvia. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Valerie Fletcher and husband Tracy, Clay Parham and wife Lisa, Ryan and Reid Tabor, Celeste Hartline and husband Dustin, and Jared and Courtney Arrowood; along with great grandchildren, Joshua and Natalie Fletcher, Bryant Parks, Haley Parham, and Easton and Rylyn Tabor. She is also survived by four nieces and four nephews. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home with Reverend's Ben Whitmire, Tracy Fletcher and Jerry Jamerson officiating. Private burial will be held at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of Karan and Jim Tabor, 9 Metcalf Drive, Weaverville. Flowers are welcome or memorials in her honor may be made to a charity of your choice.
