Celebrating the life of Claire Bowers Rector
Thank you for signing Claire Bowers Rector 's Guestbook
Condolences to the family. Mrs. Rector was my home economics teacher in 1978 and I loved her. Her sweet southern voice so clear in my mind, "Oh Cindy, you will need to get your seam ripper and take out this seam from here to here . . .. " She was so patient, kind and I have the best seam ripper money can buy thanks to her. She was a such a lovely lady.

Although I was never a student of Claire's at NB, I was a co-worker when I returned there to teach. She was always encouraging, supportive, pleasant, and helpful. Amazingly, she maintained the extraordinary ability to remember--almost instantly--the names of practically all of her former students. She was a caring person, who will be missed. Family members, I hope you will be comforted in knowing how others felt about Claire and that you will be in our prayers. Charlene Morgan Young (formerly Mrs. Morgan-Hill)

Mrs. Rector was my home economics teacher at NBHS. She was a very wonderful lady that not only taught me how to sew on a button and sew many outfits she also taught me patience and kindness. She held a very dear spot in my heart for those years she was my teacher. Loved her smile and her wit. She is now in her heavenly home. My thoughts and prayers you during this time.

Mrs. Rector was my Home Economics teacher at NBHS. She was a dear lady and a true teacher. She didn't just teach us to sew, but she taught kindness, joy, patience and love for one another. As she entered heaven I am sure she heard our Savior say, "Well done my child."
I pray for you dear family with your loss of this sweet lady. With joy we will see her again in heaven. I look forward to seeing her big beautiful smile!

My first contact with Claire was in the Teachers' Resource Center when it was still located on Hendersonville Rd next to Biltmore School. Claire was busy tiding up after others who were not as considerate as she. We had a delightful conversation. Months later we found ourselves again in conversation. This time we found we were both members of an international association for women educators, Alpha Delta Kappa, NC Alpha Epsilon Chapter. Years later, retirement came but that did not stop Claire from continuing her interest in education. She became active in the Asheville/Buncombe North Carolina Retired School Personnel. Claire devoted much time to making the luncheon meetings pleasant. Not happy away from students, she became very involved in tutoring with a big dose of love in Weaverville. Eventually, her annual volunteer hours in education reports had totals in the thousands. What a joy to have had Claire Bowers Rector in my life. May she watch over me.
