CLIFFORD LEROY JOHNSON, SR. WEAVERVILLE – Clifford Leroy Johnson, Sr., age 93, of Weaverville died Sunday, October 9, 2016. Mr. Johnson was born June 15, 1923 in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He was a retired Electrician and was employed with M.B. Haynes and the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville. Clifford was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran. He was a member of North Black Mountain Missionary Baptist Church, Barnardsville for over 50 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher, Music Leader, and various other duties. Clifford also volunteered for Mt. Sheba Christian Academy and Bread of Life Learning Center. He was the son of the late Kosey Buren and Mary Viola Wallen Johnson. Clifford was also preceded in death by his son, Terry L. Allman; sisters, Elizabeth Crawford, Francis Parris, and Betty Banks; and brothers, K. B. Johnson and Reverend Jack Johnson. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Virginia Wilkie Johnson; daughter, Joan E. Sprinkle and husband Mike; son, Cliff L. Johnson, Jr. and wife Jenny; sister, Nancy Browning; grandchildren, Tom Allman, Wendi Allman Sorenson, Troy Allman, Ashley Brandon, Jeremiah Johnson, Candice Johnson, and Bradley Sprinkle; great grandchildren, Kayla Domingos, Sophia Sorenson, Thayer Sorenson, Noah Weidner, Owen Weidner, Isaiah Johnson, Makenna Johnson, and Hayden Johnson; and one great great grandson, Henry Domingos. His memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016, in Maranatha Baptist Church, 1040 Lower Flat Creek Road, Alexander, with Reverends Dave Aumiller, Jim Creyton, and Kenneth Stump officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date near the waterfall at West Memorial Park. The family will greet friends following the memorial service at the church.
