WEAVERVILLE – Eric Andrew Koch, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 13, 2021, but was greeted with the biggest hug by his beloved daughter, Chelsea after he left this earth.

He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan but grew up mostly in Coconut Grove / Coral Gables, Florida and lived in Western North Carolina for the last three decades. He went to Coconut Grove Elementary School and was a graduate of Coral Gables Sr. High. He went into the United States Air Force after high school in 1975. He gave 20 ½ years of service and retired as Master Sergeant of the 9th Combat Munitions Squadron (AFCOMAC). He was a true patriot and loved his country!

He was an amazing Dad and loved his daughters Brittany “Bree” and Chelsea, dearly. They loved him dearly too. He was a very hands-on Dad and made sure he was always there for all the important things and just the everyday moments too. He could do a perfect braid or ponytail for school in the mornings without batting an eye. He also loved his role as Pappy and was the best Pappy to his grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

He always said he had Viking blood and lived vicariously as Klaus. He often carried his Viking horns and real European sword with him because you know, that’s important. His other character Billy-Bob would also make an appearance from time to time, and he loved getting a rise out of his audience with his fake teeth, mullet wig and overalls that didn’t leave much to the imagination.

He had a life-long love affair with whoppers and jellybeans. He would always scope out the candy spots and sneak what his daughter and grandchildren purposely left behind for himself. We should probably contact their corporate offices and let them know there will be a dip in sales.

He loved to celebrate birthdays and all the little things in life. He would always make it a point to let you know how much he loved you, he was proud of you, and would send encouraging notes and messages to loved ones and friends constantly. You could always count on him to be your biggest fan.

He will be forever remembered for his beautiful smile, gentle blue eyes, caring heart, loving bear hugs, and unconditional love.

His father, Bradford Dale Koch, and his cherished daughter Chelsea Lynn Koch preceded Eric in death.

He leaves behind his mother, Barbara Trueblood (Toby Tobias); brother, Blake Koch (Rachele); daughter, Brittany Pulliam (Bryan); grandchildren, Sienna, Mason, and Devon; former spouse, Patti Koch; stepchildren, Bonnie Childers, Julie Cochrane, John Carroll; and step-grandchildren, Madelyn, Fable, and Lillian; along with many cousins, other family and close friends.

Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Eric’s life in their own way, raising a glass of their favorite drink in his memory.

A private family “Celebration of Life” will be held.

West Funeral Home is assisting the family.
