Barbara "Bobbie" Horman Webster

ASHEVILLE – Barbara “Bobbie” Homan Webster, age 90, of Asheville, passed into heaven peacefully on Friday, February 25, 2022.

A native of Warren, Ohio, she was the daughter of James Edgar Homan and Ann Elizabeth Kerrigan Homan. She attended Penn State University. During those college years, Bobbie met her future husband who was an architectural student at Carnegie Mellon Institute of Technology.

She married Richard (Dick) Frank Webster in 1954 and moved to Asheville in 1964. Bobbie spent many wonderful years as a homemaker and mother to three children.  As the children grew up and became more independent, she entered the workforce where she held positions at Wachovia and Merrill-Lynch. Years later, she opened her own children’s clothing boutique, Merri’s Web, on Merrimon Avenue.

Bobbie was very involved in the community. At her home church, Grace Episcopal, she was a past president of Grace Episcopal’s Women of the Church, a member of the altar guild, taught Sunday school, and was a chairwoman of their Country Store annual fundraiser. She was a past president of the Buncombe County Chapter of the North Carolina Symphony Society and a citywide chairwoman for a North Carolina Symphony Drive. At Ira B. Jones Elementary, she served as PTA president, vice president and as a member. She volunteered for many years with Cougar Boosters at Asheville High School and served on the PTA there as well.

Bobbie served as an assistant girl scout leader and was also a member of the Pisgah Girl Scout Council’s Board of Directors. She and her husband were members of the Country Club of Asheville where they enjoyed many-a-night of dancing and playing couples golf.

Bobbie was an amazing mother and a grandmother “extraordinaire.” She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1998. She leaves behind her three children, Debbie W. Powell and her husband, Chip; Scott H. Webster and his wife, Judy, all of Asheville and Lisa W. Schulz and her husband, Scott of Franklin, TN; grandchildren, Brandon (Megan) Powell and Alex Powell of Asheville, Jason and Chelsea Schulz of Franklin, TN, and Lauren Webster of Charlotte and great granddaughter, Piner Ava Powell.

The family would like to thank the staff of Aston Park for the loving care and dedication they showed Bobbie during the time Bobbie was in their care.

A private graveside service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Aston Park scholarship fund at https://astonparkhcc.org/donate/ or Blue Ridge Emmaus, https://blueridgeEmmaus.org/donate
